Does Claude have an export feature?

Yes. Settings → Privacy → Export data emails you an archive of your account and all conversations as JSON. The download link expires after 24 hours.

Can I export a single Claude conversation?

Not with the official export, which is all or nothing. Copy the reply, print the page to PDF, or use an extension such as ChatPeer to save one conversation as Markdown, PDF, JSON or text.

Can I export Claude chats on mobile?

No. The data export is only available on the web and desktop apps.

Can I import a Claude export into another account?

Not into another personal account. Anthropic supports moving a personal account into a Team or Enterprise organization directly, without an export.

How to Export Claude Conversations (Markdown, PDF, JSON)

Option 1: Claude's official data export (everything, as JSON)

Click your initials in the lower left and open Settings.
Go to Privacy.
Click Export data.

Claude emails a download link to your account address. The link expires 24 hours after it arrives, and you need to be signed in to use it. Export works on the web and desktop apps, not on mobile. Free, Pro and Max users can export their own data; on Team and Enterprise plans only the Primary Owner can.

The archive contains your account information and your conversation history as JSON.

Pros: official, complete, free.

Cons: all or nothing, and JSON is built for machines rather than reading. It also can't be imported into another personal Claude account. (Moving a personal account into a Team or Enterprise organization is handled separately, without an export.)

Option 2: Copy a reply

Every Claude reply has a copy button underneath it. For a single answer you want in a document or a note, that's the quickest route, and it's all you need for short exchanges.

Cons: one message at a time, and you lose the back-and-forth: who asked what, and when.

Option 3: Print to PDF

Open the conversation, press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac) and choose Save as PDF.

Pros: available to anyone, right now.

Cons: you get the page as the browser draws it, sidebar and all, and long conversations paginate awkwardly. Fine for a one-off, tedious for more than a few chats.

Option 4: One-click export with ChatPeer

ChatPeer is a Chrome extension that adds an Export button to Claude's conversation header. Pick a format and the file downloads straight away:

Markdown, with YAML frontmatter (title, platform, dates, message count, tags) that Obsidian and Dataview can read; code blocks keep their language tags
PDF, laid out as a document rather than a screenshot of the page
JSON, with every field, for scripts
Plain text

Paid plans can also select many conversations and export them together as a ZIP, one file per chat. Plain-text export is free; Markdown, PDF, JSON and bulk export need a paid plan. ChatPeer works from a copy of your messages stored in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

Which should you use?

A full backup, or you're closing or leaving the account: the official export (option 1). Do it at least once, whatever else you use.
One answer, right now: the copy button (option 2).
A one-off PDF: print (option 3).
Regular exports into notes, docs or Obsidian: ChatPeer (option 4).
