Can I export a single ChatGPT conversation?

How to Export ChatGPT Conversations (One Chat or Your Whole History)

Option 1: OpenAI's data export (your whole history)

Open ChatGPT and click your profile, then Settings.
Go to Data controls.
Under Export data, click Export and confirm.

OpenAI emails you a download link. It can take a while to arrive, and the link expires 24 hours after you receive it, so download it promptly and while signed in to the same account. Self-service export is available on Free, Plus and Pro accounts; it isn't available on Business or Enterprise workspaces.

The ZIP holds your chat history and account data. The conversations come as a large `conversations.json` file (this is what people mean by "OpenAI format"), alongside a `chat.html` page you can open in a browser to scroll through everything.

Pros: official, complete, free.

Cons: all or nothing; you can't pick one chat. JSON is built for machines, and the HTML is one enormous page.

Option 2: Copy the reply (one answer, right now)

Every ChatGPT reply has a copy button underneath. Paste it into a doc or note and you're done. Code blocks have their own copy button too.

Good for: one answer. Not good for: the full back-and-forth, which you'd have to copy message by message.

Option 3: Print to PDF (one chat, no setup)

Open the conversation, press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac) and choose Save as PDF.

Pros: works for anyone, immediately.

Cons: you get the page as the browser draws it, sidebar and all. Long chats split awkwardly across pages and code blocks can be cut off. Fine for a one-off, tedious for more than a few.

Option 4: Share link (to show someone, not to keep)

The Share button on a conversation creates a link anyone can open. It's handy for showing a teammate a chat, but it isn't an export: the conversation stays on OpenAI's servers, and you don't get a file. If the point is a copy you control, use one of the other options.

Option 5: One-click export with ChatPeer (single or bulk, PDF or Markdown)

Backing up everything, or closing your account: OpenAI's export (option 1). Do it at least once whatever else you use.
One answer for a doc: the copy button (option 2).
One chat as a quick PDF: print (option 3).
Showing a chat to someone: share link (option 4).
Regular clean PDFs or Markdown, or a handful of chats at once: ChatPeer (option 5).
